Get thyself into The Mars Volta

Oh yes, thats right, I'm going to plug Mars Volta. Beware my fandom and behold my offerings to you, for they are awesome and worth some time with your ears. Or in the very least, i deserve some time with your eyes before you decide! Read on!

The first song is from my favorite Mars Volta album, De-loused in the Comatorium. Sadly it is the song they probably wish they never wrote, because it turned out to be more popular and stand-out than they might have liked. So alot of people are dissapointed when they don't play it at concerts. I however, can live with them not playing it live, because it keeps a place in my music library without that extra bonus.

# Televators - The Mars Volta

Next up, we have a song that has been editted so as to trim down its size. Because apparently, you normal folk prefer your songs to be of roughly three or four minutes length. The full version of this wonderful song is actually just under 6 minutes, and much better if you have the extra minutes to spare. Its from the B-side of the single, and is rather cool.

# The Widow (Edit) - The Mars Volta

Finally we have another song from de-loused, sort of. Its a demo of possibly my favorite track from the album. There aren't many noticeable differences between this original idea and the album version, but as is the way with songs of this type, a little bit can mean a hell of a lot.

# Take the Veil - The (no, you've got to be kidding...) Mars Volta

Enjoy.

Theme Tuesday

Ok, so here's what I thought I'd do for tuesdays. First off, it is tuesday, right? Good. Well, I'm going to put together songs that fit whatever theme I may have drunkenly concocted during the previous week. This week the theme is different reactions to similar ideas!

First off, the one basically every band likes to make a song about at one point or fifty: Breaking up! Do you assess the situation rationally, do you get angry at the other person, at yourself, sit alone and cry? Whatever you choose, there's probably a song out there that fits your mood exactly. Well here we have two songs for you to choose between. Would you prefer 'Ok, I messed up. I suck.' or 'Wait a minute, you bitch!'? Listen and see!

# Bowling for Soup - A Hole / # Bon Jovi - Why Aren't You Dead

Now, wasn't that fun? No? Moving on!

Everyone has dreams of being famous, and if you've never thought of starting a band and becoming a star... well thats probably a good thing, since you wont. You suck. What about the reactions if you manage though! Two more songs!

# The KGB - Fortune and Fame / # Reel Big Fish - Don't Start a Band

# Thank You / # Go Away

The 'Technically Thursday' Covers!

In light of a 'pick your favorite band of two' thing I saw going around on MySpace. I thought I'd make a post with a few 'pick your favorite of two songs covering the same topis in different ways'...

Oh right, the title says covers. Thats because I decided the other thing would take too long, so you'll get that some other time. For now, you're getting my favorite or possibly only versions of some classic and/or cheesy songs.

First up, a disco classic! (but please keep reading anyway)

# YMCA - The Skunks

Well, as some of the people who read this may or may not know, I have weakness for disco music that stems from having been very obsessed with music in my youth. Problem being basically no exposure to decent music or possession of any kind of musical talent. As is such, I'm one of these sad people who does know all the words to songs he really shouldn't. But what am I gonna do?

# No Woman No Cry - [Spunge]

The next song is less of a direct cover than the others, being that I'm not entirely sure that the lyrics are even remotely close. :-p None-the-less, a nice take on an old classic. Give it a listen, and don't linch me.

# Hotel California (Live) - The Eagles

Second from last, the excellent live rendition of Hotel California, by the Eagles. I refuse to say anymore, on the grounds that you should listen to the song. Now.

# We Are The Champions - Gavin DeGraw

Y'know what I said about the last song? That goes almost double for this. ... yes, this song is a double live rendition of the Hotels Californias by those Eagleses...

The Listening Thing! Do it!

The Style at the Time

Well I may not be an expert on these blog things, but when I was a lad we had a certain way of doing things. We would name them after certain lyrics, songs or albums, which was the style at the time.[/grampa simspon style intro]

So... I'm taking my own half-assed crack at this mp3 blogging deely, and as you may have guessed, I'm gonna be lazy about it!

First up, the title track! Not really the best track on the album, but good ever-the-more. (which should technically mean the same thing as 'never-the-less')

# Broadcast to the World

Next! I like this song for reasons I'm not going to go into right now.

# Enemy

And finally, this thing. To quote Jayne:
"Well." *walks off*

# Here's to You
